In light of the News Tribune's statement that CROWD has not even one significant shred of evidence about the threat of water contamination and environmental damage of the dump, please take time to read just some of the studies and research that has been done concerning the fact that all landfills will eventually leak. Even though these studies are over 10 years old, the fact is that very little, if anything, has changed since then to insure that landfills are safe.

This dump has been touted as "state of the art". Webster's Dictionary of English Usage (Gilman 1989, 872), states: "As a general adjective it is not much more than a flossy version of up-to-date with pleasant overtones of technical knowhow." Occasionally, says this dictionary, "it is a pure buzzword". The dictionary's six-column-inch treatment of the phrase concludes by suggesting "a reader has the right to be suspicious of what you may be trying to hide behind bright and shiny terminology."
